The Upper Euphrates Centre for Sustainable Development Research at the University of Anbar announced its forecast for weather forecasts for the coming days, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Jassam Mekhlif, a climate expert at the centre, said that meteorology through satellite images indicates that Iraq has been exposed to a cold wave in most of its parts, rainfall, and snowfall in the western and northern parts of the country, the weather situation for the coming days can be detailed as follows:
- Temperature:
Low temperatures for the next five days, starting from Wednesday, 1/1/2025, as a result of the country's exposure to polar air after the incursion of the Siberian High Iraq, and the effect of pumping cold air continues for five days hopefully, as temperatures in the west of the country and the northern region drop to below zero Celsius, especially on Friday and Saturday, corresponding to 2-3/1/2025, as follows:
Northern Region: Minimum -2 -5 0c, Maximum: 10-14 0c.

Iraq will be exposed to a Mediterranean depression that deepens over the Red Sea and its effectiveness is active with the cold wave that sweeps Iraq on Monday and Tuesday, 6-7/1/2025, and according to the European model, its effectiveness increases in the central and western regions of the country, especially the western and southwestern part of Anbar, with the continued pumping of cold air in the upper layers of the atmosphere, and Iraq falls under the effectiveness of the groove in the pressure layer 500 millibars, as it is expected that a severe rainstorm will sweep it, which may lead to floods, and warns Residents of areas near the valleys in case of runoff events that are expected to occur behind those rains.
- Snow:
It is also expected that during the depression that the country will be exposed to hopefully, Anbar province, especially the western and northern parts of it, will be exposed to snowfall, and the circle of precipitation will expand in the event of an increase in the effectiveness and deepening of the depression hopefully. Snow also fell on the north-eastern parts of the country.
- Wind:
It is moderate in speed throughout Iraq, ranging from 20 to 30 km / h and mostly north westerly, and it may be wind activity in open areas, which increases the effect of feeling low temperatures and may cause damage to some agricultural crops, so avoid watering agricultural crops during this period, as well as the effect of the dynamic factor of air movement.
