Weather during the current week
2025-02-16
The Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at the University of Anbar announced its forecast for Iraq's weather this week, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Jassam Mekhlif, a meteorologist in the Department of Climate Meteorology at the Center, stated that through satellite meteorology, the following can be found:
Rainfall status:
On Sunday, 16/2/2025, Iraq is witnessing a state of atmospheric instability as a result of the rush of a cold polar air mass of origin through the upper layers of the atmosphere towards the eastern Mediterranean, leading to the movement of a Mediterranean air depression that occurs to snowy rain in Rutba and medium to weak rain in (Haditha, Heet, Ramadi and Habbaniya) and parts of Tikrit - and heavy rain on the southwestern parts of the country, including parts of the country from morning to afternoon From the southern desert (Samawah, Salman, Karbala, Diwaniyah and Muthanna) and then turn into a thunderstorm later from the afternoon to the evening each of (Nasiriyah, Kut, Amara and Basra) - As for the northern region, its effect is weak, and the cold air may lead to a weakness of the convection currents by ascending towards the top to occur the reaction process and the precipitation will occur. So the Mediterranean depression may be poorly effective.
As for Monday, 17/2/2025, the impact of the effectiveness of the depression is limited to Muthanna and parts of Nasiriyah, as well as Basra, as it is witnessing a storm with heavy rain, in which the amount of rain is expected to exceed 10 mm, while the northern and north-eastern parts of the country (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and parts of Dohuk, heavy snowfall is expected, especially on the mountainous heights), as for Mosul and Diyala, there will be weak rainfall. The weather is clear in the western and southwestern parts of the country. The impact of this depression then gradually withdraws from the country.
