Mitigating environmental pollution with eukaryotic algae
2025-03-17
In continuation of the various activities carried out by the staff of the Upper Euphrates Center for Research on Sustainable Development in developing the scientific process in all its aspects, the Human Resources Development Department at the Center, in coordination with the Continuing Education Center at the Presidency of the University of Anbar, holds the seminar tagged: (Mitigating Environmental Pollution Using Eukaryotic Algae), which was held on Monday, 5/3/2025, at the main hall of the Center.
The panel discussion was presented by (Instructor Dr. Dina Thamer Hammoudi), and dealt with several axes, the most important of which are: the importance of preserving water as the most important natural resource at all, by using sustainable means to treat water contaminated with heavy metals instead of traditional methods that are often of low efficiency or high cost.
In addition to addressing the use of green algae in the experiments of normalization on increasing levels of heavy metals to increase their resistance to these metals and thus the use of the resulting strains to treat contaminated water, where the promising results were reviewed in the seminar and the results of the study of the effect of normalization on the structure and components of the cell as a response to the environmental pressure represented by heavy metal pollution.
At the end of the lecture, the lecturer answered the questions of the attendees, who praised the importance of such lectures and the need to repeat them in the future to learn about the latest scientific research in this field.
