Weather forecast for the coming days
2025-03-18
The Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research - Department of Climate Meteorology announced the weather forecast in Iraq for the coming days, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Jassam Mukhlif, a climate expert in the Department of Climate Meteorology at the Center, stated in his forecasts for the coming days as follows:
Temperature status:
During the next (10) days, the country will hopefully be affected by the descent of polar air as a result of pumping cold air at the pressure level of 500 mbar to the minimum widths, in the last days of winter, as the temperature will gradually decrease -hopefully- by (10 m) from the daily average for a period of (a week) starting from Thursday, 19/3/2025, and its lowest levels will reach on Saturday and Sunday, corresponding to 23 and 24/3/2025, as shown in the temperature curve for the central, northern and southern regions of Iraq, and it will rise again gradually after that on Thursday, 29/3/2025. The entry of the spring season is astronomical on March 21, when night and day are equal, and the season of falling temperatures ends.
Rainfall status:
During this wave, Iraq is witnessing a state of instability and weather turmoil, and some regions of the country may witness sporadic cases of precipitation, of which the northern part of the country will have the largest share starting from the evening of Tuesday, 18/3/2025, as it may be exposed to thunderstorms accompanied by snowfall on mountainous areas on Wednesday and Thursday evening, and the capital Baghdad, Basra and the eastern parts of Diyala may be exposed to a weak precipitation on Thursday, 20/3/2025, and on Saturday from It is possible that the far southern part of the country (Amara, Nasiriyah and Basra) will be exposed to a precipitation situation of intensity in Basra, which may witness a severe rainstorm hopefully, and on Saturday evening, the impact of the depression will move away from the country.
The wind and dust status:
The country may be exposed to high-speed winds, often in the direction of the western side of the country, in the eastern parts are affected by easterly winds, as the center of the depression moves between the west and northwest of the country, and there is turbulence in the direction of the winds (the northern sections of the country are northern winds - and the western parts of the country are westerly winds - and the southern parts of the country are easterly to southeasterly winds) moving towards the center of the depression. The wind speed may reach the northern region 30-70 km / h, peak on Wednesday and Thursday, maximum in Sulaymaniyah, the western region of the country, 30-55 km/h, peak on Wednesday and Thursday, and maximum in Rutba and west, southern region 40-60 km, peak on Wednesday and maximum in Nasiriyah 60 km/h, As a result, the cold air front accompanying the depression causes dust, dust and sand in the atmosphere, as the active winds allow them to be transported over long distances from North Africa, and the dust storm enhances the Syrian-Jordanian desert, as well as the desert of northern Saudi Arabia and the desert plateau in Iraq, and the expected effects on its impact are a decrease in the level of visibility in the undulating, central and southern region of the country, as well as an impact on air quality, which may affect people suffering from respiratory diseases, so caution should be taken.
