Participation in the 11th Scientific Conference of the College of Science / Al-Mustansiriya University
2025-06-04
With outstanding efforts from Assistant Professor Asmaa Majid Hamid, a researcher in the Meteorology Department at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at the University of Anbar, she participated in three separate papers at the 11th Scientific Conference of the College of Science/Al-Mustansiriya University and the Third Conference on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change, held at Al-Mustansiriya University on 26-27/5/2025, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Anbar and other universities. The papers are as follows:
1. (Measuring the Effects of Temperature and Solar Radiation on Ultraviolet Radiation in Anbar Governorate)
The research was conducted with the participation of Dr. Osama Tarek Al-Taie, a researcher in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences (College of Science), and Assistant Instructor Ali Razaq Jabbar, a researcher at Al-Karkh College of Science. Research Focus: The research focuses on measuring the impact of temperature and solar radiation on ultraviolet rays in Anbar, and it was found that ultraviolet rays are more closely related to solar radiation than to temperature. Connection to sustainable development: The research helps protect health and the environment by understanding the impact of climatic factors, which supports sustainable development goals.
2. (Statistical Analysis of Wind Speed and Wind Power Density by Using Different Distributions of Baghdad Governorate)
The second research was conducted with the participation of two instructors from Al-Karkh College of Science, Assistant Lecturer Ala’a Hassan Chaaloub, and Assistant Instructor Ali Razak Jabar.
Research Focus: The research focuses on the statistical analysis of wind speed in Baghdad Governorate using different probability distributions, aiming to determine the best distribution to represent the data and calculate wind energy density. Connection to sustainable development: The research contributes to evaluating the potential of renewable energy (wind), supporting the shift towards clean and sustainable energy sources that reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
3. (Assessment of Rainwater Acidity Levels in Baghdad City)
This research was conducted with the participation of the faculty members in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences: Professor Dr. Osama Tariq Al-Taie, Professor Dr. Basim Ibrahim Al-Tamimi, and Assistant Professor Dr. Munira Fadel Jassim, as well as the college member in the College of Literature, Department of Geography, and Assistant Professor Dr. Amir Mohammed Khalaf.
Research Focus: The research focuses on evaluating the behavior of atmospheric pollutants causing acid rain in Baghdad Governorate, by measuring the concentrations of polluting gases and analyzing the pH values of rainwater using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Connection to sustainable development: The research contributes to monitoring environmental pollution and identifying its sources, thereby supporting the formulation of environmental policies to reduce industrial emissions and improve air and water quality, in order to achieve sustainable development goals related to human health and environmental protection.
