A scientific research paper published in a peer-reviewed international scientific journal

Assistant Professor (Mohammed Majeed Hameed), a researcher at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research - University of Anbar, has succeeded in publishing an international scientific paper in the journal Scientific Reports, affiliated with Nature Publishing Group. The journal is classified in the first quartile (Q1) in the Scopus and Clarivate databases, with an Impact Factor of 3.9 and a Cite Score of 6.7.

This was titled: “Integrated approach of extreme learning machines and locally weighted linear regression for improved discharge coefficient prediction".

The research addresses the development of a hybrid hydraulic predictive model that combines the techniques of Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Locally Weighted Linear Regression (LWLR) using a radial kernel function, with the aim of improving the accuracy of calculating the discharge coefficient (Cd) for sharp-edged rectangular side weirs.

The proposed hydraulic model has shown a remarkable superiority over several traditional artificial intelligence models, including XGBoost, ELM, and multiple linear regression (MLR), achieving a correlation coefficient of 0.968 and a very low bias ratio, thereby enhancing its reliability and efficiency in engineering and hydraulic applications.

This work was accomplished in collaboration with researchers from Iraq, Egypt, Malaysia, and Hungary, reflecting a distinguished level of international research collaboration in the field of water resources engineering.
