Assistant Professor Dr. (Nowfal Adnan Sabri) and Assistant Instructor (Jabbar Shahab Eyada), researchers at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research - University of Anbar, published an international scientific manuscript in the journal Ecological Genetics and Genomics, which is classified in the third quartile in Scopus (Q3), with an Impact Factor of 1.8 and a Cite Score of 2.1, titled:
"Assessment of wheat genotypes performance grown in gypsum soil under two irrigation water sources"
The research shows the effect of using binary irrigation, between river water and sulphur water extracted from the well of the research station affiliated with the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, on six wheat genotypes planted in gypsum soil.
The study proved that the use of alternating irrigation between river water and sulphur well water reduced the impact of the salinity level of sulphur water on wheat plants. Additionally, this method (alternating irrigation) supports the sustainability of agricultural production in gypsum soils. Since the sulphur water reduces the solubility of gypsum thru the ion pair effect, and the river water reduces the impact of salts on the plant.
