The Upper Euphrates Center Holds a Scientific Course on Biological Technologies for Pollution Treatment to Achieve a Sustainable Environment

The Environment and Pollution Department at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at University of Anbar, held a scientific course entitled "Biological Technologies for Pollution Treatment to Achieve a Sustainable Environment" from April 5-7, 2026, in the center's main hall. The course was attended by a number of researchers, interested individuals, and students from the university's science colleges.

The following researchers presented lectures for the course:

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Hala Arshad Ali, Head of the Environment and Pollution Department at the Center
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Muthanna Badie, College of Basic Education - Haditha
  • Instructor Dr. Dina Thamer Hammoudi, Researcher in the Environment and Pollution Department
  • Assistant Instructor Areej Hamad Hassan, Researcher in the Environment and Pollution Department
  • Assistant Instructor Osama Khamis Ali, Researcher in the Environment and Pollution Department

The course covered several topics, the most important of which were:

Topic 1: General concepts of pollution, the most important microorganisms found in the air, the most important techniques used in microbiological air analysis, and how to control microorganisms in the air.

Topic 2: The most important types of biological treatments for soil pollutants and the role of bacteria in treatment.

Topic 3: The importance of natural and artificial wetlands as a sustainable and low-cost environmental solution for treating water pollutants using soil, plants, and living organisms in pollutant treatment.

Topic 4: The use of algae in treating water pollutants and the most important modern biotechnologies for eliminating pollutants and utilizing algae in Circular Economy

At the end of the course, an evaluation exam was administered to the participants to measure their comprehension of the scientific material. The results showed a good level of interaction and benefit, reflecting the success of the course in achieving its scientific and training objectives in fulfilling the center's goals of supporting modern approaches to addressing environmental pollutants in line with the requirements of a sustainable environment.
