The Terminal Station in Haditha affiliated with the Upper Euphrates Center Records a Significant Resurgence of Floods in Houran valley

The Terminal Station in Haditha, affiliated with the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at University of Anbar, recorded a significant resurgence of floods in Houran valley following rainfall on April 27, 2026.

Engineer Juma’a Muhammad Ahmad, the station manager, explained that the station's staff was immediately mobilized after detecting signs of renewed flooding in Houran valley. The meteorological team began taking measurements and conducting field monitoring. Mr. Ahmed added that the station recorded a water discharge exceeding 200 m3 per second at the center's monitoring site on the Houran Bridge, located on the Ramadi-Haditha road.

He explained that the discharge rate subsequently decreased gradually, reaching approximately 50 m3 per second at 4:00 PM on April 28, 2026. He noticed that the station's staff continues to monitor and record the new flash flood wave and analyze its data precisely.

It is worth mentioning that the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, within the strategic plan of University of Anbar, launched a specialized program in 2022 to monitor climate change through a network of meteorological stations spread across several valleys in the western region. The program aims to support early warning and flash flood management efforts and to study the impact of climate change on water resource management.
