The Upper Euphrates Center Participates in the National Council of Experts on Environment, Water, and Agriculture in Karbala

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance academic participation in national forums and strengthen communication between research institutions and executive sectors, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Saud Mohammed, a researcher at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at Anbar University and a member of the National Council of Experts, represented the center at the scientific events organized by Al-Warith Academy for Sustainable Development and Strategic Studies.

The forum witnessed a significant official and academic presence, headed by the Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, Professor Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abaiji, along with representatives from the Ministries of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Environment, and a host of senior experts and academics. The events focused on developing a "strategic platform" aimed at:

  • Institutionalizing the relationship between the outputs of scientific research and executive decision-making.
  • Developing sustainable solutions to address the rapidly evolving climate and environmental challenges in Iraq.

Over three days, the forum included in-depth specialized sessions that discussed vital issues affecting the country's national security, most markedly:

  1. The water scarcity crisis: Presenting strategic options based on up-to-date hydrological data.
  2. Desertification and food security: Reviewing ways to reduce land degradation and ensure the sustainability of the food supply.
  3. Sectoral integration: Emphasizing the need for high-level coordination among relevant ministries to ensure that scientific recommendations are translated into tangible action.

This participation underscores the leading role of the Upper Euphrates Center in supporting national decision-making with sound scientific studies and working alongside state institutions to overcome current environmental challenges.
