A Seminar Labeled "Biocontrol Fungi and Their Role in Sustainable Agriculture"

Continuing its various scientific activities and events, the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research/Human Resources Development Department, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at Anbar University, held a seminar tagged: "Biocontrol Fungi and Their Role in Sustainable Agriculture." The seminar was presented by Assistant Instructor Saja Waleed Ashour, a researcher at the center, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in the center's main hall. It was attended by a select group of college members, researchers, and a number of those interested in agricultural and environmental issues.

The lecture addressed the concept of biological control in general and its importance in reducing the excessive use of chemical pesticides, given its active role in protecting the environment and achieving ecological balance within agricultural systems. It also highlighted biocontrol fungi as one of the modern and safe methods used in combating plant pests and diseases were discussed, along with their mechanisms of action and key applications in supporting sustainable agricultural production. Some field studies and applications were also mentioned, as well as the challenges facing the use of biological control agents, future solutions, the role of fungi in sustainable agriculture, and the presentation concluded with findings.

The discussion session witnessed active participation from the attendees through questions and scientific contributions that enriched the lecture topic. Participants emphasized the importance of promoting research and applications related to biological control, given its positive impact on developing the agricultural sector and achieving sustainable development goals.
