His Excellency Minister of Water Resources Engineer Mehdi Rashid Al Hamdani announced that the May 1, 2021 will be the date for the start of the implementation of the Makhoul Dam, where the Ministry of Planning agreed to include it after the Ministry of Water Resources completed all the necessary requirements for this purpose.

It is worth mentioning that the Makhoul Dam is one of the largest strategic projects after 2003, where it will contribute to strengthening the water and economic security of Iraq, also it will protect the areas south of Samarra and Baghdad from the risk of floods.
