Ramadi station records the highest amount of rain for the month of March in 100 years

The Planning and Databases Department released the latest statistics related to the rain wave on March 25-26, 2023 at the stations of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre.

Dr. Atheer Salim Al-Mawla, in charge of the weather station at the centre inside the campus of the University of Anbar, said that the station recorded rainfall depth of (53 mm) over two days, bringing the depth of rain recorded at the centre's station inside the campus of the University of Anbar in the city of Ramadi in March 2023 to (57 mm), and from reviewing the databases registered at Ramadi station since 1923 for the same period of the year, i.e. March, it was found that the highest value of rain recorded during this month was (48.1 mm) recorded in 1989, so that the value of rain recorded during this month, i.e. March, is the highest in 100 years, where the rains continued over two days in varying proportions (the highest depth of rain recorded in March over 100 years).

As for the weather station in the terminal  location - Haditha, the depths of rainfall recorded were much less, and Mr. Ayoub Youssef Ahmed stated that the amount of recorded rainfall reached (20.25 mm) on 25-26 March 2023. The depth of rainfall recorded at this station during March of this year was (42 mm) compared to (45 mm) in 1966, (46 mm) in 1972, (92 mm) in 1974, (50 mm) in 1976, (66 mm) in 1991, (62 mm) in 1996 and (70 mm) in 2002.

It is noteworthy that this is the second time that Ramadi station recorded the highest depths of rainfall in a month in 100 years for the same period of the year, after the depths of rainfall in December 2022 recorded the highest amount in 100 years for the same month of the year.
