 Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre in a meeting chaired by the Governor of Anbar to discuss water scarcity conditions


The Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at the University of Anbar, represented by Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel, Director of the Centre, and Assistant Professor Dr. Muneer Naji Ahmed, Head of the Natural Resources Department, participated in the meeting called by Anbar Governorate to discuss the water scarcity and the crisis of low water levels in the Euphrates River, which clearly affected agricultural activities and drinking water supply in some areas of the province.

The meeting, which was held at the Directorate of Resources in Anbar, was chaired by Dr. Ali Farhan Al-Dulaimi, Governor of Anbar, in the presence of Engineer Jamal Odah Sameer, Director General of Water Resources in the province, and representatives of the departments related to water resources management in the province.

The Director General of Water Resources briefed the meeting and the Governor on the current water situation, the plans and procedures of the Directorate to overcome the current water scarcity conditions and the tremendous efforts of the Directorate's cadres to manage the water file in the best possible way, after which the meeting discussed the problems and obstacles facing the departments related to water resources management in the governorate, where the Governor directed to solve them and provide all possible support to these departments. The Director of the Centre briefed the meeting on a number of projects implemented by the University of Anbar to address the crisis of water scarcity and climate change and the studies conducted by the Centre on the subject of water resources management in conditions of scarcity and lack of water supply.

On the other hand, the Director of the Centre confirmed that the problems and topics raised by the Director General of Water Resources and the departments of the governorate will be research topics and studies within the research plan of the Centre and form research teams in conjunction with the departments of the governorate to formulate a national strategy to adopt projects that can contribute to overcoming the current crisis.
