2024-10-17
The Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre - University of Anbar announced its bulletin on pollutant concentrations according to observations and satellite monitoring for Wednesday and Thursday, 16-17/10/2024. Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Jassam Mekhlef, a climate expert in the Department of Natural Resources Development, said that through the European satellite model (ECMWF), it is observed that the concentrations of carbon monoxide pollutants (CO) have risen to very high levels as follows:
· Baghdad / 1530 ppbv.
· Musayyib /1120 ppbv.
· Amriyat Fallujah/ 710 ppbv.
· Hilla /610 ppbv.
· Fallujah/520 ppbv.
As for the concentrations of sulphur dioxide pollutants SO2, they are as follows:
· Highest in Baghdad (110) mg/m2.
· Musayyib (215) mg/m2.
· Hillah (170) mg/m2.
· Amriyat Fallujah (95) mg/m2.
· Fallujah (75) mg/m2.
These gases can cause serious health problems, especially people who suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma and inflammation of the lungs, as well as health effects on the heart and psychological state. To maintain public health, the necessary precautions should be taken by wearing masks on the personal area.
For the government level. It is necessary to start work to diagnose the causes of the rise in pollutants and their habitats and work to address them as soon as possible...
