Under the patronage of the President of the University of Anbar, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Talib Al-Nada, the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research and in cooperation with the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering at the College of Engineering at the University of Anbar and the Directorate of Water Resources in Anbar hold a scientific symposium entitled: (Sustainable and integrated management of water resources in light of changing climatic conditions), on Tuesday, 25/3/2025, and at Al-Jazari Hall in the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering.

The symposium opened by welcoming the attendees and participants by the Head of the Dams and Water Resources Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Abdul Majeed Mohamed, and then the symposium session was opened, which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ammar Kamel Hatem, Director of the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, and its rapporteur, Prof. Dr. Khamis Nabaa Sayel.

The seminar was attended by a number of directors of departments in Anbar province, the Dean of the College of Engineering, some directors of research centers at the university, and a number of teachers, engineers and students at the university.

The aim of holding this course was to highlight the challenges of water resources management in light of climate change, focus on the concepts of water resources management and planning in Iraq, and the possibility of exploiting the available quantities of seasonal torrents resulting from the rains falling on the region, and highlight the latest water management techniques and sustainable solutions to water management challenges, and the symposium sessions included the following themes:

1-    Water resources management and the challenges of water scarcity conditions in the Euphrates River: which was lectured by (Chief Engineer Jamal Odeh Samir), Director of Water Resources in Anbar.

2-    Patent: Soil and crop service machine and installation of subsurface drip irrigation pipes. This was presented by (Chief Engineer Khaldoun Ibrahim Abbas) Ministry of Water Resources / National Center for Water Resources Management.

3-    The effects of climate change on Anbar Governorate. This was lectured by (Chief Biologist Ali Hashem Mohammed), official of the Climate Change Division / Anbar Environment Directorate.

At the end of the presentation, the Chairman of the session opened the door for discussions, where extensive questions were asked in which opinions and visions were exchanged between the lecturers and participants, which affected the value of the scientific material that was presented through the activities of the symposium, and at the end the recommendations were read that everyone seeks to find their echo on the ground.
