Marketing of scientific output

As part of the research output marketing program for the formations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Iraqi Ministry of Environment approved the investment of the patent titled: "Automatic Control Device for Sprinkler Irrigation Network to Preserve Irrigation Water from Wind Effects," marking the first marketing of a research output at the University of Anbar under the name of the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research. This achievement was made by efforts of Professor Dr. Isam Mohammed Abdulhameed, the former director of the center, and Professor Dr. Jamal Wahib from Al-Karkh University of Science.

The idea of manufacturing this device emerged in response to the water challenges facing Iraq. Despite being the land of the two rivers (Tigris and Euphrates) and historically characterized by water abundance, severe climate changes and their regional repercussions have contributed to the exacerbation of water resource scarcity and the decline of agricultural land, alongside the rapidly growing population. In light of this, the need to adopt sustainable water resource management strategies has emerged, thru improving the efficiency of irrigation systems and reducing water losses, which are estimated to exceed 80% of total water revenues.

This device aims to reduce irrigation water losses due to wind effects by stopping the irrigation process when wind speed exceeds a critical threshold, and then automatically restarting when wind speed stabilizes. It also records the downtime of the irrigation system to compensate for the interruption period and complete irrigation needs to maintain agricultural production.

With great pride and honor, today the staff of the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at the University of Anbar stand before the esteemed academic figure (Professor Dr. Isam Mohammed Abdulhameed Al-Hadithy), whose contributions are as renewing as a river that never runs dry regardless of the passage of time and his significant achievements and efforts will remain a living testament to his honorable journey. Today, he receives the approval of the Iraqi Ministry of Environment within the program of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research/Research and Development Department, to market his scientific product represented by the patent he submitted.
