Upper Euphrates Center Organizes Training Course on Smart Fertilizers and Fertilizer Carriers

As part of its scientific and training activities aimed at enhancing research and applied capabilities in the agricultural sector, the Human Resources Development Department at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at University of Anbar, organized a specialized training course entitled: "Smart Fertilizers and Fertilizer Carriers: Modern Technology for the Agriculture of the Future." The course was held from Sunday, March 15-17, 2026, in the center's main hall and lasted three days. A number of agricultural engineers, researchers, and students from agricultural colleges participated. The course aimed to develop the scientific and applied skills of the participants in the field of modern fertilization management and achieving agricultural sustainability.

The course was presented by:

  • Dr. Haneen Shartouh Sharqi – Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research – Anbar University
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Muneer Naji Ahmed - Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research - University of Anbar
  • Prof. Dr. Bassam Ramadan Sarheed - Department of Soil Science and Water Resources - College of Agriculture - University of Anbar

The course covered several scientific topics addressing modern fertilization concepts and techniques. It covered the fundamentals of plant nutrition and nutrient utilization efficiency, smart fertilizers and controlled release systems, as well as fertilizer carriers and their role in improving soil fertility and reducing nutrient loss. The course also included an introduction to Nano-fertilizers and their applications, in addition to fertilization within the framework of precision agriculture and the modern technologies used in this field.

The course also included a practical and applied component, during which examples of modern fertilizers and carriers were presented, along with demonstrations of their application in agricultural fields. This contributed to enhancing the participants' practical understanding and linking theoretical aspects to practical application.

At the end of the course, an evaluation exam was administered to the participants to measure their comprehension of the scientific material. The results showed a good level of interaction and learning, reflecting the success of the course in achieving its scientific and training objectives. This course comes as part of the center’s efforts to support modern trends in sustainable agriculture and to develop the efficiency of agricultural personnel in line with the requirements of modern agricultural development.
