Within the activities of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre/ Human Resources Development Department, and in cooperation with the Continuing Education Centre at the Presidency of the University of Anbar and under the direct supervision of the Director of the Centre, Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel, the free training course tagged: (Sustainable Environmental Development), which lasted for three days for the period 15-17/12/2024, was concluded on Tuesday, 17/12/2024, in the main hall of the Centre.

The first lecture, presented by Prof. Dr. Muthanna Khalil Ibrahim Al-Rawi, a lecturer in the Department of Soil and Water Resources at the College of Agriculture / University of Anbar, included several topics, the most important of which were: introducing what sustainable development is, knowing the difference between development and sustainable development, what are the sustainable development goals, and the principles of sustainable development.

And how can the sustainable environment be exploited for the benefit of humanity, by following the following methods: (sustainable environmental development, preservation of natural resources, improving the quality of life, and promoting social justice), and at the end of the lecture a simplified presentation of the challenges and opportunities that hinder the achievement of a sustainable environment, and what strategies must be achieved in order to obtain sustainable environmental development:  (e.g., government policies, education, quality, community cooperation, technological innovation).

The second lecture, presented by the instructor, Dr. Saad Jabbar Hafi, researcher at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre / University of Anbar, included a simplified explanation of the concept of sustainable development, and then moved to a detailed presentation of the seventeen sustainable development goals with a full and detailed explanation enhanced by illustrative images for each goal. After that, a historical overview of the term sustainability in contemporary history was presented, and how the concept of sustainable development developed, in addition to presenting models of sustainable development, such as the one-column and three-pillar sustainable development model, the sustainability index, and the sustainability egg model, and at the end of the lecture, the axes and indicators of sustainable development were addressed.

The course witnessed the presence of the centre’s researchers and a number of college and researchers from colleges and research centres at the university, which included some questions in different axes on the topics that were raised, which concluded with a test for all participants.
