Monitoring rain floods in the valleys of the western region


The meteorological teams of the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at University of Anbar continue for the third consecutive day the work of monitoring the runoff rains and valleys of the western region resulting from the recent wave of rains.

Engineer Juma’a Mohammed Ahmed, head of the terminal in Haditha and affiliated with the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at Anbar University, said that the floods in Zaghdan valley have receded significantly with sunset on 10-3-2025. As for Horan valleyat the center station at the Horan Bridge near the Ramadi-Haditha road, a discharge of (3.1) cubic meters / second was recorded, which indicates the decline of runoff rains in this part of Horan valley.

At the same level, Engineer Ahmed Ismail, one of the center's researchers, stated that Horan valley in the city of Rutba said that as a result of the rains in the region on 10-3-2025, which recorded rain up to (12) mm, and the start of the arrival of torrents from the top of the valley, the torrents began to flow in Horan valley inside the city of Rutba and reached the center's measurement station at the Horan Bridge inside the city of Rutba at 3:30 am on Tuesday 11-10-2025, and a discharge of (15) cubic meters / second was recorded. He also added that another reading was monitored at one o'clock in the afternoon of this day, where a discharge of runoff rains was recorded by (4.1) cubic meters / second, and other monitoring work will be conducted this evening.

It is noteworthy that the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, for the third consecutive year, is monitoring and recording flood discharges in the western region for the first time since 1976 to provide databases for researchers and graduate students to study water resources and the impact of climate change within an ambitious program adopted by the university within its strategic plan to achieve the goals of sustainable development within Vision 2030, and in the coming days detailed statistics will be issued regarding the recent wave of rains.
