Satellite images of dams of the western region

The Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at the University of Anbar announced a set of satellite images of the dams of the western region as part of its program for monitoring and monitoring climate change.

Satellite images taken by the European Space Agency showed the enhancement of water storage for more than ten water harvesting dams spread over most areas of the western desert in Anbar province as a result of the wave of rain and runoff rains during the period from (3-9) March 2025. Engineer Ahmed Ismail, from the Department of Climate Meteorology, confirmed the strengthening of water storage in the dams (Rutba, Horan 3, Al-Abila, Al-Husseiniya, Shabija, Al-Rahaliyah, um Al-Tarfat, Al-Ga'ara 2, Al-Ga'ara 4, Al-Abyad, in addition to the Al-Massad Dam, which is a dam under construction), adding that these dams are built on various valleys in the region.

The analysis of these images shows the great importance of small dam projects in the region and their great role in supporting and enhancing the efficiency of water resources management in Iraq, and some of these dams, such as the Horan Dam, the White Dam, the Rahaliya Dam, and the Rutba Dam, had a store throughout the last summer season, and dams built near cities and population centers such as Al-Rutba and Al-Rahaliya Dam, which enhances investment and development opportunities in these cities.

On the other hand, Engineer Ahmed Ismail confirmed that satellite meteorology has shown a noticeable improvement in the water storage of the Haditha Dam on the Euphrates River during March 2025, compared to April 2023, adding that the cadres of the Upper Euphrates Center are making great efforts to monitor water revenues through satellite images and analysis, in addition to observations of rain and torrential rains in the region within the center's program to monitor climate change.
