Free scientific course entitled (Bioremediation of Environmental Pollutants)

For the purpose of investing the expertise of specialized scientific staff towards achieving the goals of sustainable development, The Human Resources Development Department at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the Presidency of the University of Anbar, held the course tagged: (Bioremediation of Environmental Pollutants), which lasted three days for the period 27-29/4/2025, the course was lectured by: (Assistant Professor Dr. Hala Arshad Ali) and (Assistant Professor Dr. Muthanna Badie Farhan).

This course is considered one of the important courses in the treatment of pollutants using microorganisms in order to obtain a clean healthy environment free of harmful pollutants that can be produced through the use of chemical and physical treatments. The course dealt with a number of important axes in the field of biological treatment using living organisms, especially the use of microorganisms represented by bacteria, fungi and yeasts and how to make optimal use of these microorganisms through the specialization of these organisms in the qualitative decomposition of pollutants of various kinds of organic and inorganic chemicals and reduce the risks of radioactive contamination, and also the axes of the course touched on the importance of conducting genetic modifications on strains of bacterial isolates, fungi and yeasts by conducting genetic modification for them using genetic engineering methods for the purpose of improving their performance in the analysis of contaminated materials and their disposal or conversion into non-toxic compounds through bio absorption into the microorganism used in the process of biological treatment, as well as the ability of these microorganisms to produce specific enzymes that can decompose that type of pollutants.

At the end of each lecture of the course, there were questions and scientific dialogues by the participants, which were answered by the lecturers, and the course concluded with an exam for the participants.
