Weather Forecast Based on Available Satellite Monitoring for the Coming Days
2025-12-15
The forecast indicates a deep upper-level cold trough at the 500 millibar level, supported by a jet stream, which will cause weather disturbances, dense fog, and rainfall. Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Jassam Mukhlif, Head of Satellite Meteorology, stated that fog is expected on December 16, 2025. He indicated that a widespread and very dense fog is expected to form again after midnight, covering large parts of central, western, and southern Iraq, as shown in weather maps. This fog is caused by strong cooling in the upper atmosphere, coinciding with a temperature inversion that traps moisture in the lower layers. Additionally, calm winds allow moisture to accumulate and condense significantly, leading to the formation of dense fog that reduces horizontal visibility.
It is expected that the fog will begin to dissipate gradually after 9:00 AM as surface temperatures rise and light winds pick up.
Rainfall Expected (Daytime, December 16-18, 2025):
The chances of rainfall increase across the country as a deep cold front dominates. This front acts as a dynamic force, lifting moist air from the ground, which helps in cloud formation and subsequent rainfall. God Almighty says:
Temperatures:
Allah willing, a gradual decrease in temperatures is expected due to the Siberian air mass and a general drop in temperatures, especially at night, across the country. It is recommended to take precautions and wear appropriate clothing to keep warm, particularly for the elderly. The average temperatures for the next 10 days are as follows:
Mountainous Region:
Maximum (5 to 11)°C.
Minimum (0 to -7)°C.
Northern Iraq and the west of the country, represented by Rutba:
Maximum (10 to 14)°C.
Minimum (2 to 6)°C.
Central Region:
Maximum (14 to 18)°C.
Minimum (5 to 9)°C.
Southern Region:
Maximum (17 to 21)°C.
Minimum (8 to 10)°C.
A sharp drop in temperature is expected, Allah willing, on December 24, 2025, due to the Siberian extension..
