Master's thesis on (Effects of Climate Change and the Dams of the Source of the Tigris River on the Hydrological Properties of Makhoul Dam)

Prof. Dr. Isam Mohammed Abdel Hameed and Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel participated in the supervision and membership of the defense committee for the master's thesis tagged: ((The effects of climate change and the dams of the source of the Tigris River on the hydrological characteristics of the Makhoul Dam)), which was submitted by the student Zainab Abdel Salam Faisal to obtain a master's degree in water resources engineering in the discussion hall in the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering.

The study aims to study the effects of climate change and its impact on the Great Zab River and the Makhoul Dam using the SWAT model.

The thesis also included the use of field discharges to conduct a "trend analysis" of the selected areas to see the impact of climate change. For simulation, digital elevation model (DEM) was used to represent the great Zab River and draw flow lines, taking into account the use of vegetation and soil mapping in the SWAT program, in order to estimate future discharges in light of climate change. The results of the program were used as a key to calculate the storage of the Makhoul Dam in light of climate change. The results were calibrated using SWAT-CUP software. The maps were drawn using ArcGIS pro.

The results of the study showed an estimate of the height of the Makhoul Dam and also the reservoir of the dam in light of climate changes. In addition, the future discharges of the Great Zab River for the period 2000-2050 were predicted and the percentage decrease of the discharges of this river was calculated. The study indicates that climate change affects Iraq's water resources clearly, and the letter added that climate changes must be taken into account when building the Makhoul Dam and other hydraulic facilities.
