Participation in a scientific discussion committee at the University of Diyala

Prof. Dr. Akram Abdul Lateef Hassan Al-Hadithi, a member of the staff of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at the University of Anbar, participated in the public scientific discussion committee formed to discuss the draft master's thesis of the student (Mustafa Hussein Ali), at the College of Agriculture – University of Diyala, which was entitled: (Adsorption and release of lead by biochar from the aquatic environment).

The study presented by the student aimed to produce an effective, environmentally friendly and low-cost material to remove heavy metals from aquatic environments, which included the preparation of biochar through the pyrolysis process on two different raw materials widely available in Diyala Governorate, namely palm annuity and sheep manure at two temperatures, (300 C?) and (700 C?).

The study reached several conclusions, including: that pyrolysis is a suitable method for the production of biochar, and sheep manure and palm peels are ideal raw materials for this purpose and are available in Diyala province and the techniques (FT-IR, FESEM-EDX, Zeta potential, CEC, and BET) are effective tools for biochar diagnosis.

The study recommended the use of biochar surfaces to remove organic and inorganic contaminants, in addition to testing their effectiveness in removing heavy metal ions in poly ion systems, with the aim of obtaining an accurate estimate of the adsorption process in natural environments.
