Behaviour of swollen soils treated with magnetized water

The Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Centre at the University of Anbar, holds a scientific awareness workshop entitled: (Behaviour of swollen soils treated with magnetized water), in which the teacher, Dr. Salem Mahmoud Ahmed, lectured, on Wednesday, 18/12/2024, at the main hall of the centre.

During the panel discussion, the lecturer gave a full explanation about the behaviour of swollen soils treated with magnetized water, where he explained that the wide extension of swollen soil makes it necessary to establish some buildings on it, since most of the existing soils are in unsaturated states and to emphasize the safety of the buildings built on them, some treatments must be carried out for these soils, where magnetized water technology was used with different intensity from (0-500-1000-1500-2000) Gauss, which is one of the green and environmentally friendly technologies used in many fields such as Agriculture, industry and other sciences.

The swollen soil used in this study was obtained from the city of Al-Rahalia / Anbar, which is a natural clay soil with a liquidity limit (113%) and a donna index (55%), and reverse osmosis water was used after exposure to different magnetic intensities from 0 to 2000 Gauss.

The current study can be divided into two parts and showed the first category to study the effect of magnetic field treatment on the chemical and electrical properties of reverse osmosis treated water and this work includes the establishment of a 24-hour water circulation system in the magnetic field, as shown in the tables below:

The second category showed the effect of magnetized water (MW) on the chemical and geotechnical properties of swollen soils, and in this part of the study most of the soil properties are measured before and after magnetized water treatment. The results of the tests showed a clear improvement in the geotechnical properties of the swollen soils, where (LL) decreased to 43.4%, (PI) decreased to 74.6%, and the free swelling and swelling pressure were reduced to 22.3% and 31%, respectively, at the magnetism intensity of 2000 Gauss. Moreover, the effect of (MW) on the value of absorption pressure and unconfined shear test was studied, and the results showed a clear effect of magnetized water on the absorption pressure in the soil, where the absorption pressure and the value of the unconfined pressure increased with increasing magnetic intensity.
