The Upper Euphrates Center Holds a Scientific Workshop on "Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions towards a Sustainable Future"

As part of the activities of the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at Anbar University, a seminar entitled "Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions towards a Sustainable Future" was held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the center's main hall, with the participation of a select group of professors, researchers, and specialists.

The seminar lectures were presented by:

  • Assistant Instructor Asma’a Majid Hamed
  • Assistant Instructor Zainab Abdul Salam Faisal
  • Assistant Instructor Othman Abdul Hamid Mahmoud

They presented comprehensive scientific topics addressing the phenomenon of climate change as the greatest environmental threat currently facing the planet. The seminar reviewed the fundamental causes of this phenomenon, focusing on human activities such as industrial emissions, deforestation, and excessive vehicle use, in addition to natural factors such as volcanic eruptions and changes in solar energy.

The seminar emphasized the direct impacts of climate change, including:

  • Rising sea levels and melting ice caps.
  • Negative impact on agricultural productivity and food security.
  • Loss of biodiversity and extinction of some species.
  • Increased natural disasters and impact on water resources and public health.

Possible solutions to address these challenges were also reviewed, including the transition to renewable energy (solar, wind, and biogas), the use of environmentally friendly transportation, as well as enhancing energy efficiency, waste management, and promoting afforestation. The session witnessed a remarkable level of scientific engagement from the attendees, through discussions and questions that enriched its themes, reflecting the growing interest in adopting policies to mitigate the effects of climate change.

At the end of the session, the speakers emphasized the importance of concerted international and local efforts, and adherence to environmental agreements, to ensure the development of a sustainable ecosystem capable of meeting future challenges.
