2026-01-15
In order to enhance prospects for scientific cooperation and joint academic exchange between University of Anbar and governmental institutions in Anbar Governorate, the Natural Resources Development Department at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research organized a specialized scientific lecture entitled:
(Converting waste into thermal fuel using pyrolysis technology)
This took place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in the scientific discussion hall at the center. The lecture was presented by Dr. Saadoun Obeid Ayada from the Anbar Health Department, in the presence of a number of researchers, teachers, and those interested in environmental and engineering affairs.
The lecture covered several important scientific topics, most notably:
• An introduction to the concept of pyrolysis and its mechanism for breaking down organic and polymer waste at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen.
-
- A review of the practical applications of this technology in the fields of engineering, agriculture, the environment, and solid waste management.
- An explanation of the manufacturing stages of the pyrolysis device, which was implemented in the Roads Laboratory at the College of Engineering, University of Anbar, using local resources.
- A demonstration of the device's potential to treat various types of waste and convert them into useful materials, including biofuels and biochar.
- A discussion of the opportunities for employing this technology in Anbar Governorate and Iraq to contribute to reducing environmental pollution and utilizing waste to create alternative energy sources.
The organizers of the lecture confirmed that this scientific activity is part of the center's annual program, which aims to:
• Supporting applied scientific research.
• Promoting a culture of innovation and utilizing local resources.
• Establishing the principles of sustainable development and the circular economy.
• Strengthening cooperation between the university and government institutions.
At the end of the lecture, an extensive scientific discussion took place between the attendees and the lecturer about the prospects for developing this technology and the possibility of adopting it in future research and applied projects within the governorate.
