Publishing of scientific paper in a peer-reviewed international scientific journal

Assistant Professor (Mohammed Majeed Hameed), a researcher at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research - University of Anbar, published an international scientific manuscript as part of the requirements for obtaining a PhD from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). The paper was published in the journal Environmental Earth Sciences, which is classified in the first quartile (Q1) in Scopus and the second quartile (Q2) in Web of Science, with an Impact Factor of 2.8 and a Cite Score of 5.5. The title of the paper was:

The research presents a comprehensive review of recent advancements in drought modelling using artificial intelligence techniques and statistical models, surveying 241 published scientific studies between 2006 and 2025, with a detailed analysis of model inputs, drought indicators, classifications and types, performance metrics, data duration, and study areas.
The researcher provided a deep scientific analysis of the published studies, aiming to evaluate the reliability of the models used and their consideration of the hydrological and dynamic characteristics of drought. The results showed that 27.42% of the AI-based models were incorrectly constructed due to their neglect of temporal changes and the dynamic variability of the drought phenomenon, which could lead to misleading results.

The paper concluded with important scientific recommendations to improve the accuracy and reliability of drought prediction models in the future.

It is noted that the research was conducted under the supervision of advisors from Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, reflecting a high level of international research collaboration.
