Government and academic coordination to search for "green belt" routes around the city of Ramadi

As part of efforts to address climate challenges and promote environmental sustainability, Dr. Saad Jabbar Hofi, Head of the Natural Resources Development Department, along with Dr. Saleh Mahmoud Saleh, researchers at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research - University of Anbar, participated in the expanded meeting held at the Anbar Environment Directorate to discuss the technical and environmental parameters of the planned "Green Belt" project around the city of Ramadi, in the presence of representatives from relevant government departments.
Key topics of the meeting:
- Spatial and environmental planning - Reviewing and scientifically analyzing the proposed routes for the green belt to ensure their compatibility with the geographical characteristics and ecosystem of the region.
- Sustainability Strategies - Researching technical mechanisms to ensure the project's sustainability, with a focus on modern irrigation systems and selecting drought-resistant plant species.
- Biological control of desertification - Discussing the role of the belt in reducing the severity of dust storms, improving air quality, and moderating temperatures within the urban environment.
The participants emphasized the necessity of integrated work between government institutions and civil society organizations, stressing that the success of this strategic project depends primarily on developing well-considered operational plans for sustainability and on-the-ground monitoring, ensuring the realization of the desired environmental and developmental benefits.
The Green Belt project represents a fundamental pillar in the governorate's strategy to enhance vegetation cover and achieve environmental stability, thus contributing to the creation of a healthy and sustainable environment that supports the quality of life in Ramadi and Anbar Governorate in general.
