Upper Euphrates Center Holds Specialized Seminar on Design and Implementation Standards for Electrical Power Transmission Lines
2025-12-24
Under the auspices of the University of Anbar Presidency, and within the framework of joint scientific cooperation, the Human Resources Development Department at the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research, in coordination with the Continuing Education Center, organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled: "Design of Electrical Power Transmission Lines and Optimal Implementation Mechanisms According to Engineering Standards."
The seminar, held in the center's main hall, witnessed the participation of a select group of academics and specialists, with contributions from:
- Professor Dr. Wissam Mohammed Jassim (College of Computer Science and Information Technology)
- Instructor Dr. Salem Mahmoud Ahmed (Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research)
- Assistant Instructor Ayoub Yousef Ahmed (Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research)
Scientific and Technical Themes of the Workshop:
The seminar aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the power transmission line lifecycle. The energy transmission projects were discussed, with research papers distributed across four main axes:
- Administrative and Contractual Theme: This addressed the mechanisms for managing engineering contracts, distributing supervisory tasks, and ensuring the quality of organizational performance from the beginning of the contract until delivery.
- Preliminary Engineering Design: This reviewed the basic design requirements and proposed technical paths, highlighting the types of electrical towers and their functional differences (suspension towers, tension towers, and angle towers).
- Civil and Structural Works: This theme focused on the technical specifications and concrete foundations necessary to ensure tower stability, taking into account the environmental and geological factors of the soil.
- Construction and Wiring (Electrical Engineering): This discussed tower erection methods and stringing mechanisms using electrical conductors, adhering to international standards to ensure transmission efficiency and minimize energy losses. The workshop included in-depth technical discussions on the mechanical and electrical components of transmission systems, along with a realistic analysis of the implementation mechanisms used in Iraq. The researchers emphasized the need to adopt modern design technologies to increase the efficiency of the national grid and achieve energy sustainability in line with urban and industrial development. What the country is witnessing.
