Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research Participates in the Founding Meeting of the National Council of Experts
2025-12-27
Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Saud Mohammed, researcher in the Department of Planning and Databases, represented the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research – University of Anbar in the founding meeting of the National Council of Experts for Environment, Water, and Agriculture. The meeting was organized by Al-Warith Academy for Sustainable Development and Strategic Studies and held in Karbala Governorate on December 24, 2025.
The establishment of this council comes in response to the escalating challenges Iraq faces in the fields of environment, climate, water, and agriculture, which have direct implications for environmental, water, and food security. The Center’s participation reflects its commitment to being present and active in such events, in line with the University of Anbar’s strategic plan for sustainable development and Vision 2030.
The council brings together a distinguished group of experts and representatives from specialized research centers within ministries, government institutions, and Iraqi universities. Its mission is to monitor, study, and assess Iraq’s environmental and climatic realities, analyze their impacts on water and food security, and propose solutions, policies, and programs to achieve environmental, water, and food security within a sustainable national strategic vision extending to 2050. This aligns with the Center’s orientation, based on the University’s vision of prioritizing environmental issues, climate change, and water resource management, recognizing the vital role of research centers in this field.
The council aims to build a national knowledge base and specialized scientific reference, prepare national roadmaps, and develop a national early warning system to monitor climate change and environmental disasters. It also seeks to support national decision-making with accurate information, scientific analysis, and future studies, while contributing to the formulation and updating of relevant policies and legislation. All these objectives are consistent with those of the Center and the University, which strive to establish robust databases to support researchers in this field and contribute to practical solutions for water scarcity and the impacts of climate change.
