Professor Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel, Director of the Upper Euphrates Center for Sustainable Development Research at University of Anbar, chaired the master's thesis defense committee for Abdulmajid Mohammed Rahman in the Department of Water Resources Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Sulaimanyai. Rahman's thesis, titled "Assessing the Sustainability of Unofficial Small Dams in Sulaimaniya Governorate as a Case Study," examined small water harvesting dams in the region, constructed by farmers without any official or engineering involvement. The study evaluated 14 dams, some with storage capacities exceeding 2 million cubic meters. Its aim was to establish standard requirements and guidelines to ensure the safe and efficient design and operation of these dams, and to train and educate the local community on their construction and operation methods, given the significant increase and expansion in their use due to the effects of climate change. Following a thorough discussion, the thesis was accepted. This participation aligns with the university's plans for scientific and research partnerships with various Iraqi and international universities and activates the memorandum of understanding signed between Anbar University and the University of Sulaimaniya.
